On what projects is firestop inpection necessary?
As stated in the previous question, IBC 2012 requires special inspection of firestopping for buildings over 75 feet in height, and category III and IV buildings (IBC article 1705.16). It may also be required by the authority having jurisdiction as a means to manage proper firestop installation.
Can firestop be inspected after installation is complete?
Per ASTM E2174, there are two options when it comes to inspecting firestop penetrations

The inspector shall witness 10% of installations, or

The inspector shall perform destructive testing on 2% of installations.
